[Duncan Mowbray]

"Yes, girl." Pan answered. "You followed my call. History will remember you two as you are the only ones to heed my song in nearly an age."

Duncan felt Lilah move nearer and he put an arm around her protectively.

Pan played his flute and danced around a large stone platform. When he finished the circle music came from the stones.

"The last mortal to find me was alwo a young musician, brave enough and curious enough to find me." Pan said.

He vanished and re-appeared behind the students. "The lad's name was Merlin. He laerned my songs and he learned the deep magic. And he stopped the..."

Pan looked thoughtful and dissappeared. He reappeared upon a huge monolith. "Merlin did not stop the end, he postponed it. 'THE end can not be stopped, it must come, but it can be delayed for millenium by those willing to stand against it."

Pan walked towards them through the air as if he walked down steps. "The music of the spheres plays on, learn it and learn the deepest magics. You must join the choir of all things ..."

Duncan couldn;'t take his eyes off of Pan as he shifted and held Lilah. "Is the end near ?"

"That depends on how you define 'near' my boy." Pan answered. "But it IS coming lad. The end is CERTAINLY coming."

Pan began to play his pipes again and the structures around him began to play music with him.

"D-Duncan. What is g-going on?" Lilah asked

Lilah was scared. But felt safe her and Duncan can do this together.

She needs help!

"I don't know, Lilah." Duncan answered. "If this guy is telling the truth then he's one of Merlin's teachers and I thik he's telling us that WE need to be the ones that stop 'the end'. I think he means the end of everything."

Pan stopped the music and walked to them. "You are a bright boy." Pan seemed to be examing them. "There is still a chance. You two could accomplish more than Merlin, but you'll need help, and there isn't much time left."

He sat in the grass and began to play "No, not much time. But we count time different than you mortals do."

Pan sat in the grass and played.

"That's incredible." Duncan said as he stared at the satyr that claimed to be a greek god.

"D-Duncan I'm not meant for anything like this. I'm a slytherin and i like trouble but im not a good witch yet."Lilah said

"Excuse me Mr.Pan. Why me?" Lilah asked

[Duncan Mowbray]

"That is a very nice question lass." Pan answered. "Because you chose to follow the music. I have played my music in these woods since before there was a school here, and some students have heard and some of them followed a little."

He began to walk around them . "you because you choose to find me, the end, the answer. You made a decision of will, young girl."

"And Slytherin does not mean evil. The true depth of Slytherin, although he was flawed, was DRIVE. A NEED to achive, which is different from the diligence of Hufflepuff. He was more like Helga Hufflpuff than any of you mortals knew."

"You found me, so you CAN learn and BE great." Pan sat again. He pulled out a waterskin and drank from it.

"Well Mr.Pan. when do we start?" Lilah asked confidently flashing a brilliant smile

[Duncan Mowbray]

"You could call this the overture." Pan said "The music which will be carried through the entire program. You will need to do two things for the moment."

Duncan stared at him, studying everything about the satyr and listening intently.

Pan smiled at the boy. "Yes boy, with that kind of hunger your minds might find your answer."

Pan took another drink, then continued. "First, remember that the music of the spheres plays on, it will continue until the very end - then there will be quiet and stillness and the end of all things. Learn about the music of the spheres, their song will help you."

When he finished his drink he said "And now I will play a song for you. It will be easy to remember, but you must learn it before you can go on."

He played and the ground shook and the sky grew bright and the plants waved in tempo of the music.

They saw colors they had never seen and notes they had never heard and when Pan was done they were laying on the ground, dizy and shakey."

"I will be back and play for you again." Pan said. "You will hear me."

He walked towards a wall of stone. "This is a safe place for you. You,and anyone you bring freely, will be safe here." then the satyr walked into the wall, ghost-like, and was gone.

Duncan tried to rise, but collapsed beside Lilah "wow". he gasped.

OOC: they will both feel there strength and balance returning.

"Oh my. That was ... AWESOME!" Lilah said

[Duncan Mowbray]

"You can say that again." Duncan said with a long sigh. "Awesome, mind blowing, incredible..."

He shook his head "I don't know if my brain feels like jello or like a blender." Then he giggled. "Sorry about that, I forgot you're a pureblood and might not get the muggle references. "

He managed to sit up. "Well, we have a safe spot in the forbidden forest. That's good to know."

He managed to stand up and offered a hand to Lilah "How are you doing ? I'm mostly done being wobbley."

"Nervous. scared and happy all at the same time and i know what a blender i watched what you call a VT?" Lilah said sounding dumb

Duncan nodded to her. "Well our host left. We oughtta get outta here too." he said. He took her hand and started to lead the way.

"I wonder what happened to professor Fandale." Duncan said. "She didn't follow us, maybe she went back to the castle. I hope she didn't get hurt."

OOC: if prof Fandale doesn't reply I am going to assume that we don't find her on the way back, unless the headmaster instructs us differently.

Duncan put his hand in lilahs and lead the way back

That sent sparks through her whole body.


"When you gave me a nod i looked back and saw her wandering?" Lilah said

Duncan walked hand-in-hand with Lilah as he spoke. His voice sounded almost musical, as if he was singing each word, even though he was speakin NOT singing "If we don't see her we'll need to tell the headmaster. We'll need to talk to the headmaster anyway. We have to tell him about Pan and Merlin and the music of the spheres and the... end of all things."

He smiled at Lilah, it felt good to hold her hand like that. "I'm glad you were here." he said as they neared the edge of the forbidden forest.

"me too." Lilah said feeling guilty because of her feelings for him and hawkes

By the time they left the forbidden forest the still hadn't seen the professor. "She must have left." Duncan said.

We better head to the headmaster's tower. He chuckled "Everything on this school is far away from everything else, too bad we don't have brooms, or a magic carpet."

Something occurred to Duncan "Can you read music ?" he asked Lilah as they began their walk to the castle.
