Holding a small rolled up parchment, Laelia walked up to the Owlery and entered the doors, and saw owls of various hues scattered up. Some dozing, some snacking on rodents and even treats, and some screeching. She scrunched her nose as the scent of feathers, droppings and a decomposing animal assaulted her sense of smell.
Laelia's dark eyes inspected each and every bird, dismissing all of them within a few seconds until she spotted one out of the corner of her eye. It was a barn owl, that was staying put, with head cocked to the side, as if it was eavesdropping on the screeching owls a few feet away.
Inclining her head to greet the owl, she asked, "Will you be willing to take this letter to my parents?" The owl hooted, and stretched its leg. Taking it as a sign of acceptance she tied the letter to his leg and said, "Maurus and Karina Lule." Spreading its wings, it hunched forward, and soared in the air, and left the owlery. She stayed there, watching the owl, till it left her sight and departed from the owlery.
Dear Father and Mother,
I have reached Hogwarts safely and have settled down in my new dorms. I'm sure you will be pleased to know I have been sorted into Slytherin. The school is enchanting, and has its secrets, which I am curious to know. I have time to find all of them out now. I trust brother is doing well. I have not heard from him, and could only conclude his corpse was cooling in some marsh in the middle of nowhere. A morbid and selfish thought but as I have not received an owl from him, it is an expected one.
I have made a few acquaintances. Mother will remember, a Miss Brooke Edwards from the Leaky Cauldron. An enjoyable and amiable companion. I have some doubts about her blood purity but her history does denote some amount of exposure to our world. Her uncle appears to be a wizard fond of caring for magical creatures including a phoenix. I believe it would be advantageous to further our friendship. Perhaps, a visit over Christmas will be alright with you?
I have written quite a bit for now, and most now end my letter with fond farewells.
Your loving daughter,
Laelia
