Professor Coppergold approached the closed door to the Arithmancy classroom. In his hand, he had the graded assignments from the previous week. Overall, he felt pleased with the work of his students.
When he opened the door to the classroom, he was pleased to see that the room was already filled with the natural sunlight coming from a very sunny day. He hoped it was an omen of more good things to come. As he set the papers down on his desk, he noticed that some of the desks were not in the rows. He went to each individual desk, adjusting it so that was parallel to the chalkboard. As he finished adjusting the last desk, he heard the large bell in the distance signalling the start of the day's classes.
Slowly, students filed in and took seats throughout the classroom. It was interesting, he thought, how many of the students chose to sit in the same place they had last time. When all of the students had gotten settled into the classroom, he approached the lectern, faced the students and began the lesson:
"Good day, students! As you know me already from last week's lesson, an introduction is unnecessary. Now, I had planned on doing something today that would build upon our skills as numerologists. However as I was sitting in my office and pondering what today's lesson should be. Suddenly, an idea hit me that ended up changing the entire direction of this course! Today, we are going to begin learning how to create original characters, and give them unique character qualities, using arithmancy and numerology.
So, the first thing you need to do is come up with an original name. This name must have a first name, middle name, and last name. Make sure it is something that you like because it will be the name of the original character you are going to develop. Once you have come up with the name of your "developing character," write it down so you don't forget it!
Now, let's begin with today's lesson!
The first thing we are going to talk about today is the soul urge. Now, this number tells how you, or any person, views life. It also reveals your heart desire. You can find this number by taking the vowels from the name. Associate each vowel with its appropriate number from 1-9, add them up, and keeping adding the digits together until you come down to a single digit number between 1 and 9. The meaning that is associated with that number is called your soul urge number.
The second thing we will discuss today is the quiet self. This number is very important because it tells what you're like when you are alone. It can also reveal our fantasies and daydreams. It is also known as the "quiescent self." Another important thing to know about the quiet self is that it can only be seen when a person is completely alone. You can find your quiet self number by taking the consonants from the name, matching the letters up with the numbers, and doing the same process as before.
The third thing we will learn about is the infamous letter "Y." Everyone knows that Y is sometimes considered a vowel, sometimes not. Here are some rules to help distinguish when it is a vowel and when it is a consonant. The first rule is: "Y is a vowel if there are no other vowels in a syllable that contains the letter Y." The second rule is: "Y is a vowel if the letter before it is also a vowel such as in "AY", "EY", or "OY." It is important to distinguish the difference between Y as a consonant and Y as a vowel. When it is a consonant, it is a part of our "quiet self." When it is a vowel, it is a part of our "soul urge." Watch out for these rules! I know I will be looking for it when I am looking through your assignments this week!
Finally, something we didn't talk much about last week was the "expression." Last week, we calculated our names "expression" number. What does it mean though? It simply indicates our natural abilities and the things we can do well!
Now, for your assignment! You will find the assignment as an attachment to this lesson. Simply click on the link to download it. You should be able to open it from any type of word processor. If you cannot download the assignment, you still access it by clicking here.
If you have questions regarding the lesson or the assignment, send me a PM to set up an appointment for a live chat in my office. Class adjourned."
Slowly, the students filed out of the classroom. They all had worried looks on their faces. James hoped that he hadn't gotten them too confused.
