A Place to Think (Open)

[Brooke Edwards]

Brooke walked out of the castle with all of her school books from her first four classes. She was quite tired and was looking for somewhere to relax. They had been so hectic, but they had also been quite enjoyable. Brooke loved being a witch. She couldn't wait to write her uncle again and tell him all about it. She was walking down the path to the lake and her head turned towards the forbidden forest. At the edge of the forbidden forest there was an old hut. It looked like it hadn't been used in quite a long time.

Brooke had her hair up all spiked and it was a bright pink colour. She had been told that she looked good with pink. Her eyes were a deep blue, but they turned to a chocolate brown when she moved to investigate the hut. She walked around it slowly, the forest was right behind it. She could hear sounds coming from the forest, but they didn't scare her.

Brooke walked up the huts wooden steps and knocked on the huge door. She wondered who could have been big enough to fit through that door. She pushed the door open slowly with a loud creek. It was quite dark, but it looked as though it was only on room. There were cobwebs all over the room. There also was the remains of a fireplace and a broken bed. The bed was huge, Brooke walked in a little further, looking out for the spider webs.

Mist practically bumped into Brooke as she walked round the corner.
"Oh, hi, Brooke." Mist smiled weakly. "What are you doing here?"
"Don't ask what I'm doing here, 'cause I'll just tell you. I ... I guess Duncans' already told you about me liking him and falling out with Lilah, yeah? Well, I want to think it over. I mean, how am I supposed to face them again when they parade in front of my face?" She sighed, and sat down.
"I love your hair and eyes, by the way. I love the way it just changes."

Brooke nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard Mist's voice. She whipped around quickly and tripped, falling on to the rickety old bed. The bed cracked and broke in the middle. It was a rather comical sight. Brooke got back up quickly, not wanting to know what could have been on that bed.

"Sorry Mist," Brooke gasped, hugging her friend. "You scared me out of my wits." Then Brooke sat on one of the old chairs, which looked sturdy, and listened to Mist's dilema. She frowned, knowing her own crush on Duncan, which dissappeared when she had found out about him and Lilah.

"You and Lilah are best friends, right?" Brooke asked. "If you want to keep her as a friend, then your feelings for Duncan shouldn't get anymore than friendly. Why don't you just talk to Lilah? Can't you and Duncan just stay friends?" Brooke looked at her concerned. Brooke herself knew that she still might be crushing on Duncan, but that's not nearly enough to get between him and Lilah. She was good friends with Duncan and she would never do that too him.

"Thanks," Brooke said in response to the comment about the hair. She smiled, kindly and waited for Mist's answer.

"It's a good idea, Brooke," Mist began, smiling, "but I've made such a fuss about it. Gryffindor Common Room. Bawling my brains out about it. and then Duncan walks in. I'll try it, yeah? Thanks."
"And what are you doing here, can I ask?" Mist grinned, hoping to get off the subject of the Complicated Dilliema.

Oh no, Brooke thought. Duncan must have felt so terrible about that. She shook her head, thinking about it. Brooke's pink hair had gone completely white in her scare from Mist, but it had now receded back to pink. It was the colour of bubble gum and she had now put blue streaks in it.

"What am I doing here?" Brooke repeated, thinking of the answer. She had left the castle just to get a bit of fresh air, but had ended up finding this hut.

"Umm...I was going to the lake to soak up the last bit of sunshine, but then I found this old hut. I wonder who used to live here. He must have been pretty huge." Brooke looked around at the cobwebs again, nodding her head at the big bed she had broken.

"Mhm." nodded Mist. She grinned at Brookes' hair. "Cool. Wish I had hair like that. Mines' very boring." She nodded at her red waistlong curls.
"Wanna go in?" asked Mist mischeviously.

Brooke looked at Mist's curls and she smiled. She liked the look of Mist's hair. It was shiny and looked really soft.

"I think your hair's really beautiful," Brooke smiled. She then changed her hair to a waistlong red, like Mists. She flung it around a bit and laughed, her eyes sparkling.

Brooke then walked further in to the hut and walked over to the fireplace, where there was an old picture of a giant man with three smaller people. She frowned and went to pick the picture up, but she decided not too in fear of breaking it.

OOC: They were already in the hut, that's why she didn't respond.

Mist laughed and thanked Brooke for the compliment.

"Scary. I wonder who it was?" Mist asked, then put on a dark voice, as if commentering in a horror movie. "The eyes followed the two girls, and when they turned around ... 'AHH!' They'd yell, as an arm shot out of the photo ... " she finished.

"Sorry. Had to do that," and she grinned.

Brooke tried to look at Mist with a disappointed look, but she failed miserably. Then she smiled to make up for it and her eyes changed to a deep emerald green. Brooke looked around the hut some more and then pulled out the huge chair to sit on. She gave a deep sigh.

Brooke had been loving Hogwarts and her new friends, but she really missed her Hippogriff, Penny. She hadn't seen her in ages and Penny had been doing really well. Brooke hadn't thought about her in a while.

For a few weeks now, she had been sketching Penny from memory and placing her drawings all over bed. She hadn't tried to colour them, in fear of ruining them.

"Sorry, Mist." Brooke said, realizing that she was ignoring her friend. "What are you doing out here? If you don't mind my asking," Brooke suddenly frowned and wondered why she hadn't asked Mist that before.

"I've already told you, but I was so upset about the two. Oh well." Mist shrugged. "You're so cool, Brooke," Mist smiled at her eyes. "i'm glad I've got a friend like you."

Brooke blushed at Mist's comment. She was glad to have her as a friend too. Brooke shuffled her feet, unable to think of what else to say. She wasn't sure where to go from that point. She got up and began to look at the pictures on the mantle piece again.

Brooke found another photo of what looked like a large boy with a regular sized man on his shoulder. The boy was huge, but his face looked as though he was about eleven. The man on his shoulder was smiling with his dark eyes twinkling.

"Wow," Brooke said, slowly. "I wonder who this man was. He's amazing." Brooke held up the photo to the light. It was very old, but moving like all wizarding pictures. Brooke turned back to Mist with an eager expression on her face, waiting for her reply.

"He is. He's," She peered closer at the picture. "Half giant. Hagrid!" Mist suddenly realised.

"I hear people talk," Mist grinned at Brooke, "This guy loved animals, was here in Harry Potter times." Mist nodded. "And when I say I hear people talk, I mean, I eavsedrop." And she grinned one more.

Brooke continued to stare at the picture as Mist finally gave him a name. Hagrid? Brooke thought. Then she remembered her lack of knowledge about the wizarding world. She wasn't sure if she should tell Mist about her muggle parents, but she nodded and pretended to know who she was talking about.

"In Harry Potter times?" Brooke asked. She was surprised. "He was a half-giant? That's amazing! Are there still giants about?" Brooke had heard all about Giants from her uncle. He had to drive one away from a small town once and it was a story that Brooke would never forget.

"Aren't giants ferocious creatures?" Brooke asked suddenly. "How come they let one live here? Was the headmaster mad?" Brooke was confused and she looked to Mist for the answers.

"He was quite friendly. Apparently." Mist shrugged. "And Dumbeldore wasn't mad. He ... " Mist stopped and looked at herself in the mirror.

"Brooke? How the hell do I know all this?!"

Brooke stared wildly at Mist. What kind of question was that? How was Brooke supposed to know? She suddenly felt almost awkward, so she simply ignored the question. Brooke then walked out of the cabin, beckoning for Mist to follow.

Brooke walked around the side of the house and looked at the Fordidden Forest behind it. She didn't hear anything from it, but she was dreadfully curious to know what kind of creatures lived within the forest. She turned to Mist.

"I think I want to explore the forest." She whispered, slyly, smiling mischieviously. "You can come if you want, but don't make any noise, we don't want to scare any of the animals away." Brooke then began to sneak in to the woods, with her pencil out and her sketchbook in her othe hand.
